“The trainings I have taken in both Community Conferencing and Peacemaking Circles have increased my knowledge of restorative practices, helped developed my skill set as a facilitator and given me the confidence to share restorative practices with others.”

— Dora Smith, PiRI Volunteer

Training in Restorative Practices

Would you like to learn how to use restorative practices in your home, work or community? Are you interested in volunteering with PiRI as a facilitator in restorative practices?

Restorative Conversations - March 3 - We live in a time of great change and we live in a culture which has become increasingly reactive to addressing these changes. Culture wars and conflicting values are a part of the common diet in many organizations, families and in other realtionships. Not knowing how to respond to conflict in healthy ways is tearing our community apart.

This training will give participants some tools for and develop skills in responding to conflict in ways which will promote greater vitality and health. Participants in past training sessions have been able to immediately put their training to use to heal the harm conflict has caused in their lives, families and in community groups.

Date and time: Saturday March 3, 9:30 am - 4:40 pm

Location: Room 117 at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School

Cost: TBD

Registration: call PiRI at 585.473.0970

Trainer: Rev. Alan Newton (17 years experience as a practitioner and trainer in Restorative Practices)

PEACEMAKING CIRCLES are an effective process used in many agencies and schools around the country. They provide an opportunity for youth and adults to come together in a safe and supportive way. This process improves communication skills, teaches new ways to solve conflicts, improves relationships, and is an effective way to celebrate achievements.

COMMUNITY CONFERENCES are an ancient way of resolving problems. Victims and offenders voluntarily agree to participate, along with community members. Offenders accept responsibility for the harm they caused, and all participants determine together through dialogue how to repair harms to the extent possible.
